Published on 2008-09-22 by John Wiley & Sons

PRACTICING NARRATIVE MEDIATION WHEN IT WAS published in 2000, John Winslade and Gerald Monk's groundbreaking book Narrative Mediation quickly became the classic work on the theory of narrative technique in mediation. Practicing Narrative Mediation is the next-step resource that explores the explosive development of narrative practice that has taken place in the past ten years. Practicing Narrative Mediation provides mediation practitioners with practical narrative approaches that can be applied to a wide variety of conflict resolution situations. Written by John Winslade and Gerald Monk—leaders in the narrative therapy movement—the book contains suggestions and illustrative examples for applying the proven narrative technique when working with restorative conferencing and mediation in organizations, schools, health care, divorce cases, employer and employee problems, and civil and international conflicts. Practicing Narrative Mediation also explores the most recent research available on discursive positioning and exposes the influence of the moment-to-moment factors that are playing out in conflict situations. The authors include new concepts derived from narrative family work such as |absent but implicit,| |double listening,| and |outsider-witness practices.| Practicing Narrative Mediation will help both family and community mediators hone their skills to make sense from and generate meaning within the conflicts they encounter.

Assessing Negotiators’ Performance – a Negotiation-analytic Evaluation System PDF
By:Martin Schilling
Published on 2007-12 by BoD – Books on Demand

Seminar paper from the year 2004 in the subject Psychology - Work, Business, Organisational and Economic Psychology, grade: 1,0, Free University of Berlin, 8 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: Negotiation trainings are usually case study based. This paper presents a computer-based evaluation system to assess the performance of negotiators in negotiation-analytic case studies. The system thereby serves as a way to reinforce learning objectives of the course and to deliver a graphical comparison of performance between the participants. The evaluation system was developed for three types of cases: easy oneissue cases, more complex two-issue cases and most realistic multipleissue cases. Most important feature of the MS-Excel based evaluation system is to show participants, that most negotiation settings are nonzero sum games. In these settings contract combinations exist, which result in more benefits for both parties. The theoretical basis for zero-sum and non-zero sum settings are discussed in this paper as well.

Handbook of International Negotiation PDF
By:Mauro Galluccio
Published on 2014-12-04 by Springer

This book reinforces the foundation of a new field of studies and research in the intersection between social sciences and specifically between political science, international relations, diplomacy, psychotherapy, and social-cognitive psychology. It seeks to promote a coherent and comprehensive approach to international negotiation from a multidisciplinary viewpoint generating a longer term of studies, researches, and networking process that both respond to changes and differences in our societies and to the unprecedented demand and opportunities for international conflict prevention and resolution. There is a need to increase cooperation, coherence, and efficiency of international negotiation. It is necessary to focus our shared attention on new ways to better formulate integrated and sustainable negotiating strategies for conflict resolution. This book acquires innovative relevance in and will impact on the new context of international challenges which do not have a one-off solution that can be settled through a single target-oriented negotiation process. The book brings together leading scholars and researchers into the field from different disciplines, diplomats, politicians, senior officials, and even a Cardinal of the Holy See to give their contributions and make proposals on how best to optimize the use of negotiation and diplomacy structures, tools, and instruments. However, unlike most studies and researches on international negotiation, this book emphasizes processes, not simply outcomes or even tools but the way in which tools are and can be used to achieve better outcomes in international reality-based negotiation.

Moments of Negotiation PDF
By:Jürgen Pieters
Published on 2001 by Amsterdam University Press

Moments of Negotiation offers the first book-length and indepth analysis of the New Historicist reading method, which the American Shakespeare-scholar Stephen Greenblatt introduced at the beginning of the 1980s. Ever since, Greenblatt has been hailed as the prime representative of this movement, whose critical acclaim has been one of the dominant trends in recent literary and cultural studies. In this new book, Jürgen Pieters attempts to fill a remarkable lacuna in the critical reception of Greenblatt's work. The book's aim is to provide a thorough analysis of the theoretical background of Greenblatt's method. This involves not only a close reading of Greenblatt's sources—the book offers introductory surveys of the work of Mikhail Bakhtin, Michel Foucault, Louis Althusser, Pierre Macherey, Michel de Certeau, Jean-François Lyotard, Raymond Williams and Stuart Hall—but also a critique of the way in which he adapts and transforms their original insights in the framework of his own interdisciplinary method. This book is of interest to students and scholars coming from a diverse range of fields: literary theory, cultural history, early modern studies, Shakespeare studies, theory and practice of history.

Family Mediation in Ireland PDF
By:Sinéad Conneely
Published on 2017-11-22 by Routledge

This title was first published in 2002: After outlining the origins and development of family mediation on a world-wide basis, this book assesses family mediation services in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, within the context of the empirical and theoretical debates surrounding the practice. It is the first comprehensive study of the area in Ireland, appearing at an opportune time, due to the expansion of the service in the Republic and its virtual collapse in Northern Ireland. It argues that the service provided in the Republic of Ireland is appreciated by clients and is successful, although the issue of domestic violence remains. In contrast, it suggests that the absence of service provision in Northern Ireland is problematic, since it undermines consumer choice.

Mediation, Conciliation and Emotions PDF
By:Peter D. Ladd
Published on 2005-01-01 by University Press of Amer

Emotions impact any practitioner of dispute resolution; yet, there are very few programs with courses that explore the emotional side of disputes. In Mediation, Conciliation, and Emotions, Peter Ladd outlines the emotions found in disputes and how these emotions function in dispute resolution. The book is divided into two parts: emotions and mediation, and emotions and conciliation. These parts examine the phenomenon of mediation, how to control emotions during mediation sessions, and how different disputes require different modes of emotional reconciliation. Mediation, Conciliation, and Emotions offers practical advice and information about the role of emotions in dispute resolution. It is an indispensable tool for practitioners of dispute resolution. Author Peter Ladd has developed a computer program which simplifies scoring of the |Emotional Climate Inventory| offered in the book's Appendix. This program can be accessed via St. Lawrence University Graduate School of Education's website at www.stlawu.edu/education.

Who Is Michael Ovitz? PDF
By:Michael Ovitz
Published on 2018-09-25 by Penguin

If you're going to read one book about Hollywood, this is the one. As the co-founder of Creative Artists Agency, Michael Ovitz earned a reputation for ruthless negotiation, brilliant strategy, and fierce loyalty to his clients. He reinvented the role of the agent and helped shape the careers of hundreds of A-list entertainers, directors, and writers, including Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Meryl Streep, Sean Connery, Bill Murray, Robin Williams, and David Letterman. But this personal history is much more than a fascinating account of celebrity friendships and bare-knuckled dealmaking. It's also an underdog's story: How did a middle-class kid from Encino work his way into the William Morris mailroom, and eventually become the most powerful person in Hollywood? How did an agent (even a superagent) also become a power in producing, advertising, mergers & acquisitions, and modern art? And what were the personal consequences of all those deals? After decades of near-silence in the face of controversy, Ovitz is finally telling his whole story, with remarkable candor and insight.
